Aug. 1, 2007

Greetings from San Francisco! The Internet connections -- both wireless and wired -- are not functioning in our hotel room. Fortunately there is a business center here as well. Anyway, we got up at 5 a.m. EDT and finished our packing. We left for the airport around 11:30 a.m. We had a connection in Cincinnati (where the airport is actually in Kentucky rather than Ohio), and they were looking for volunteers to take another flight. That's when we knew our carefree days were over; we're on a schedule and must stick to it. So despite all of their pleas, we passed on the offer. On the plane, I made it through a big stack of old newspapers ... but of course I have since picked up four more papers to read. I can't think of a better way to pass the time on the plane tomorrow. Meanwhile, Peter's biggest bag went missing. It is supposed to be delivered around midnight. Our hotel is quite nice. There is a hot tub and the a/c wasn't turned on in the room when we arrived -- so obviously I'm pleased that I have been able to stay warm. We had a delicious salad and fresh fruit tart at the hotel deli. Peter says hello.
